Duo Classic Postponed

Posted on 09/01/2017

As many of you may be aware Bec Henderson and Dan McConnell, Australia’s two leading mountain bikers, are the major drivers behind the Duo Classic race.  First run in 2012 to assist with funding for Bec and Dans 2012 Olympic campaign the Duo Classic has become a ‘must do’ race on the Canberra calendar with around 500 riders competing in this pairs format race.

In 2013 Bec and Dan began their four years racing with the international Trek Factory Racing Mountain Bike team. At the end of 2016 their contracts to the Trek Factory Racing team were not renewed.  Unfortunately the flow on of this is that the Duo Classic race has been postponed to give Bec and Dan the chance to re-group and begin preparations for the 2017 international season.

All riders who have entered on-line will have their money refunded over the next two weeks.

A new, purely performance focused team which consists of two world-class elite riders, a mechanic and soigneur has been developed as the result of the split with Trek.  As with any team, sponsorship is the main source of funding and Bec and Dan are urgently requiring industry and non-industry companies for financial support for their 2017 / 2018 World Championship and Commonwealth Games campaigns.

The 2017 World Cup series begins on 20 May in Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic and ends with the World Championships in Cairns, Australia on 9 September.  The 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia and both Bec and Dan have their sights set on gold medal performances after their bronze medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

If you, or your company, are interested in sponsoring Bec and Dan for 2017 and 2018 there is no greater opportunity for maximum exposure than the two major events being held in Australia – World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

We would like to thank all of our Duo Classic participants for your support and we look forward to seeing you again.
